The British rock band Marillion, who formed in Aylesbury in 1979, are set to support the Mayor of Aylesbury’s charity challenge at their homecoming show tonight (Saturday 24th September).

The band are set to perform at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre and have asked fans to bring a tin or two with them to contribute to The 10 Tonne Challenge.

What's The Ten Tonne Challenge?

The challenge has been designed by the 2022-23 Town Mayor, Councillor Tim Dixon, who is aiming to collect ten tonnes of non-perishable goods before the end of his mayoral year in May 2023.

The food is then going to the Aylesbury Foodbank, one the mayor's charities of the year, who will distribute the goods to those in the community.

If those attending the concert forget to pick up an item, then the nearby Waitrose will be operating a stall where people can grab something suitable.

Those not attending the gig are also invited to drop off a donation outside the theatre anytime from 2PM.

"Your donations really do count"

Mr Dixon said: "I am delighted Marillion are supporting my 10 Tonne Challenge and supporting Aylesbury Foodbank.

"Each donation received through the challenge will go to support residents in Aylesbury.

"Your donations really do count. Each tin or packet will go towards ensuring that someone in our town will get a meal."

"Need has risen already this year"

Heather-Joy Garrett, Operations Manager at Aylesbury Foodbank said: “Last year Aylesbury Foodbank fed 7,161 people with a total of 64,449 meals and sadly this need has risen already this year.

"We are very grateful to the Town Mayor for highlighting our charity in this way.”
