"I mean why should I be so honoured?" - Bucks patient & nurse on the coronavirus vaccine
Brian and Nurse Helen met on Monday as he became the first resident to receive a jab
Buckinghamshire began the vaccination for Coronavirus on Monday (14/12).
Brian Horn, a patient at the Hall Practice in Chalfont St Peter, became the first person to receive the COVID-19 vaccination in Buckinghamshire on Monday, when he received the first of two injections.
The 90-year-old explained it was a shock to be called in so soon:
"I mean why should I be so honoured? Who am I?
"It seems to be that there are far more people who are more deserving, like the NHS and medical staff.
"It was very easy and the staff were so welcoming.
"The nurse who injected my was so gentle I didn't even know she had done it!"
That Nurse was Helen Ellis, who says it was nerve-wracking despite injections being part of her everyday job.
She wants people to remember it is a two injection vaccine though:
"When the patients come in to get the first jab they get given a card with a record of the day and time they got the jab.
"That will have the date and time for people to attend the second jab exactly three weeks later.
"It is really important people come in for that because it will then take a week or two from then for the resistance to develop."
She says that in the coming weeks it will be busy for vaccine centres as they roll out the second round of jabs alongside the first for new patients.
Helen has urged people to wait until they are contacted about receiving the vaccination and not contact their GP surgery.
Brian has says that 2020 has been 'rather boring' and returning for a second vaccination is not trouble as it will help protect others and get things back to normal
Brian is encouraging anyone invited to to get the vaccination:
"I would say go and have it!
"The sooner everyone has it the better. All I received was a slight pain in the arm when I woke up this morning, but nothing to worry about.
"It is no worse than getting the flu jab, so I would say get it if you can."
