RAF Halton release virtual tour of Halton House
The manor would usually be available for visitors as part of National Heritage Week.
The manor forms part of the Rothschild estate in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
RAF Halton would usually open its doors each year to welcome visitors as part of National Heritage week.
However, the site near Wendover is unable to do so because of coronavirus regulations and have instead created a virtual tour for people to enjoy.
The video has been published to RAF Halton's Facebook page and is described as 'a virtual tour to give you an insight into the history of the building and its current use as an Officers’ Mess.'
The tour showcases the architecture and artistry of the manor, including Alfred Rothschild's love of symmetry which is shown through things like mirrored doorways, which at times only lead to shallow cupboards.
For the film lovers, locations where scenes from The Queen, The Kings Speech and Bond movie The World Is Not Enough were filmed.
The building now serves as the Officers' Mess, providing accommodation and catering for RAF Halton Officers.
Presentations and award ceremonies are preformed at the house, which also hosts members of the Royal family and visiting dignitaries.
In 2016 it was announced that the RAF Halton airfield would be removed as part of the Ministry of Defence's estate and would be disposed of by 2022.
The phases of disposal were laid out by MP David Lidington, Defence Secretary at the time:
Phase 1 – Airfield disposal.
Phase 2 – Relocation of School of Recruit Training and Airmen's Command School to RAF College Cranwell.
Phase 3 – Relocation / rationalisation of lodger units.
The closure date of 2022 was revisited last year and postponed until 2025.
