Huge rabbit farm plans blocked by Buckinghamshire Council

Campaigners are celebrating but say they'll keep fighting

Plans for a huge rabbit farm in Buckinghamshire have been rejected.

Bucks Council turned down the proposals for the site near Amersham, which campaigners say would have seen 10-thousand rabbits killed a year.

PETA say they expect developers to try again and will continue to fight it.

The application to the council’s planning department by Phil Kerry of T&S Nurseries – who already owns several rabbit farms across the country and has recently had similar plans rejected by Cornwall Council – sought permission to erect a facility that 'would have confined 250 female rabbits and treated them as breeding machines', PETA say.

In a statement, the campaign group said:

"After receiving tens of thousands of complaints, including a letter from PETA – signed by over 33,000 of our supporters – the council ruled in our favour and rejected the application.

"Thanks to everyone who spoke out and objected to the plans!"

The group claim fur would have been sold as a by-product of the farm, although this was not confirmed.

We approached the developers for comment but did not hear back.

PETA say they will be watching if they try again.
