A Luton teenager who murdered his mother and two siblings could face a tougher sentence after claims his 49-year jail term was too lenient.

Nicholas Prosper, 19, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 49 years in March after killing his mother Juliana Falcon, 48, and siblings Giselle, 13, and Kyle, 16, at their home in Luton. He was also planning a mass school shooting to gain notoriety.

Now, the Court of Appeal will review his sentence after Conservative shadow justice minister Dr. Kieran Mullan raised concerns under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.

“He should have been given a whole-life order,” said a spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office.

The judge, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb, said the 49-year term reflected the seriousness of the crime, considering Prosper’s age and guilty plea. She said whole-life orders for 18–20-year-olds require “exceptional circumstances.”

Dr. Mullan criticised the decision, saying:

“What does someone have to do to get a whole-life sentence? This was the murder of two children and a planned mass shooting. Justice must be seen to be done.”

The Court of Appeal will now decide whether the sentence should be increased.
