HS2 is helping to pay for road safety schemes in Buckinghamshire - giving the county nearly £4-million.

The cash is meant to help with the disruption we'll face as construction happens and projects can apply from today for a slice of the cash.

£3.95m has been allocated to Buckinghamshire by the Department for Transport.

The fund, which is being administered by Buckinghamshire Council, will be released to meet the costs of road safety schemes, in a series of tranches between now and 2026.

The first, £1m, will be made available in 2021.

Applicants wishing to apply for funds will need to apply by 15 May 2021.

The funds are expected to be in high demand so schemes to be funded will be carefully selected to maximise the long-term benefits across the county.

Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire Council said:

"The HS2 Road Safety Fund will contribute to making more of Buckinghamshire's roads safer for all users.

"We want as many communities affected by the impact of HS2 construction, as possible, to benefit from a share of that legacy."
