Police in Milton Keynes rescued a distressed dog earlier this week, after its owner subjected it to an assault. The assailant, a 42-year-old male, was caught on CCTV operators at The Centre MK, and arrested and subsequently charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
CCTV footage reviewed by officers from the Central Milton Keynes Neighbourhood Policing Team depicted the male lifting the dog by its collar, dragging it for approximately 10 meters, and violently throwing it to the ground. The assailant proceeded to punch the helpless animal over 10 times to the head and face.
Police arrested the suspect at 12:46 PM on suspicion of violating Section 4(1) and Section 32(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2006. By 5:46 PM the same day, the suspect had been interviewed, charged, and remanded to appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court.
During the court appearance on the morning of November 14, the accused pleaded guilty to the charges. He was subsequently granted bail, under the condition that he is not to be in possession of any animals. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 7, 2023.
The dog, identified as a white and tan Staffordshire Bull Terrier type, was seized by the police and immediately taken to a veterinary facility for assessment and care. The CMK NHPT ensured the canine received the care it deserved, including an abundance of tasty snacks.
"It is safe to say he will be missed by Officers and was a much loved temporary addition to the office. The dog will be cared for in kennels, allowing a rehoming process to begin," stated the post. "Here are some pictures of the Dog whilst with Officers, if we could have kept him we would have!"
