Police release image of clothing similar to that worn by man who was found in River Stort
The man's body was found over three weeks ago, but his family haven't been traced and he's not been identified
Police are releasing an image of a distinctive hoodie as part of enquiries to identify a man who was sadly found dead in Bishop’s Stortford.
The man’s body was found by a member of the public in the River Stort on Sunday 23 March, shortly after 11.45am.
A cordon was put in place while officers carried out their initial investigations, and the man’s death is being treated as non-suspicious but unexplained.
However, despite extensive enquiries, officers have not yet been able to identify the man or notify his next of kin.
Detectives have now chosen to release an image of clothing similar to those the man was wearing, in the hope that this will jog someone’s memory.
Detective Sergeant Thomas Nash, from the East Herts Local Crime Unit, said: “This is a very sad case because we still do not know who this man is, or what his story was.
There is no suggestion that there was any third-party involvement in his death.
We estimate that he was aged in his mid-20s, was of medium build and had facial hair on his chin.
He is around 5ft 9in to 5ft 11in tall.
We believe his body may have been in the undergrowth in the for a considerable period of time and our main priority is to trace this man’s family so they can lay him to rest.
Therefore, we have now taken the step of releasing an image of one of the items of clothing that he was wearing to see if anyone recognises it, as the pattern on the front is quite distinctive.
He was found wearing a black Adidas hoodie, as pictured, dark grey Nike Air tracksuit bottoms and black Adidas trainers.
If you think you may have any information that could assist us in our investigation, please get in touch.”
