Police launch arson investigation after large fire in Hertford
The building was destroyed but thankfully no one was hurt in the blaze
Detectives have launched an arson investigation following a large fire at a disused building in Hertford.
Police were called to assist at the scene of the incident in the grounds of County Hall in Pegs Lane, at around 7pm on Tuesday (13 May).
The building was destroyed and following an assessment by experts, it is believed that the fire was started deliberately.
Detective Constable Michael Parker, from the East Herts Local Crime Unit, said: “Thankfully no one was hurt during the incident, but it could easily have been a different story and we are taking the matter very seriously.
“Our enquiries are continuing, including a review of any CCTV opportunities. As part of the investigation, we are also keen to hear from witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity around the time of the fire.
“We know that several people were in the area at the time, and we are keen to trace them. If you have information or any footage which may assist us, please get in touch.”
