Extra police on duty across Bucks as people celebrate Bonfire Night
Thames Valley Police are preparing for one of the busiest nights of the year
Thames Valley Police will have extra uniformed officers on duty tonight (5 November) as people across the county celebrate Bonfire Night.
A number of firework displays will take place this evening, with emergency services working together to keep people safe.
A recent poll revealed that 52 per cent of adults in England and Wales are planning on having private displays at home with friends and family.
Head of Public Protection at Thames Valley Police, Superintendent Rebecca Mears, told Greatest Hits Radio:
"There is obviously a natural risk of fireworks and people having their own displays and the risk of injury.
"We want people to enjoy themselves but to be sensible.
"Halloween and Bonfire night are our busiest nights of the year.
"It's not Christmas, it's not the summer holidays.
"They come a close second.
"These two are most busy in terms of calls to us."
She added:
"People have to remember that vulnerable people might be scared by fireworks, and there is the risk of fireworks going off in places that they shouldn't.
"There can also be fights amongst local people.
"This extra resource will be visible, it's all uniformed officers, particularly our neighbourhood teams out in the local community.
"There will be a noticeable increase."
