Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Welwyn Garden City on Wednesday 2 April.

The incident took place between 10pm and 11pm on Viaduct Way when the victim, who was out for a walk, was approached by a silver Renault Clio driving at speed. A man, described as approximately 5ft 11ins tall and in his 20s, got out of the car and punched the victim in the face.

The victim sustained serious facial injuries and required hospital treatment. A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and criminal damage, but detectives are still trying to trace another suspect.

DC Jessica Board from the Welwyn Hatfield Local Crime Unit said:

“This appears to have been an unprovoked attack, and the victim is understandably shaken up by what happened.”

“I’m urging anyone who was in the Digswell Park Road area near Viaduct and Bessemer Road between 10pm and 11pm on the evening of 2 April to come forward if they witnessed the incident or saw anything suspicious.”

“I am also appealing for information about the Renault Clio with the registration LM62 MVW.”
