Children in Milton Keynes celebrate World Poetry Day
Children in Bucks have been putting their poetry skills to the test
Pupils from a primary school in Milton Keynes have been putting their poetry skills to the test ahead of World Poetry Day today.
Children at Brooklands Primary School teamed up with Barratt Homes to write poetry about what makes their local area special.
Mica, who's 8 was declared the winner by the developer.
Jenny Hover, Assistant Headteacher at Brooklands Farm Primary School, said: “We were delighted that Barratt Homes asked us to take part in this poetry competition.
“The competition really put the children’s English skills to the test and encouraged them to think about what makes our local area so great.”
The children were allowed to be as creative as they wanted, and Mica’s winning poem was in an acrostic form with the start of each line spelling out ‘Brooklands Farm’.
Alison Raine, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “We received a variety of inventive entries as part of the poetry competition and it was a difficult task choosing our winner, however we hope this project has inspired the imaginations of the children involved.
“As a leading housebuilder, it is important to us to engage with the local communities in which we build.”
