Plea to Bucks women to still go for screenings

Buckinghamshire's NHS teams are keeping tests going

It's still important to go and get checked if you're invited for a smear test or breast screening in Buckinghamshire.

That's the message from our NHS, who are keeping these tests going through lockdown.

Bucks Healthcare have been sharing messages on social media.

They want to reassure patients that services are up and running, despite lockdown.

Dr Fiona Tsangwright is a consultant at Wycombe Hospital, she says that it is important people attend these appointments and speak to a GP if they are worried:

"We know that for people who attend their mammogram, an earlier diagnosis can mean a better out come.

"So we would really truly encourage people to come forward, if they're called for their mammogram or if they are worried about anything please do call the screening service.

"This applies to men as well as women, male breast cancer may be rarer but it does still happen.

"The things we want people to be aware of are the changes of the skin of the breast or contour, a change in the shape, a breast lump or one under the armpit or fluid from the nipple.

"If you are worried about any of this please seek advice from your GP and if they need to they will refer you onto a specialist clinic like ours if they need to.

"Our clinic has been adapted to allow the appointments to happen safely and it is our job to ensure we look after you and give you an early diagnosis if necessary."

Last week was Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, so more advice was shared about getting a smear test.
