Around 120 people evacuated themselves from a block of flats in Luton last night (July 18) after one caught fire.

Bedfordshire Police confirmed the fire was mainly contained within one flat, but some damage was also caused on the outside of the block.

No one was injured.

Most of the residents who were evacuated are now back in their homes, however, some were placed into temporary accommodation whilst they are unable to get back into their flats.

Police also thanked a nearby church who opened their doors last night to help provide shelter for those who left.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service sent five appliances to the area around 8pm last night, with their Fire Control reporting that the incident was being scaled back in the late hours of the evening.

All roads have now reopened and emergency services may be in the area over the next few days.

A joint investigation into what happened will also be taking place.
