The tension is building for fans of Newport Pagnell Football Club, ahead of their clash with Ascot United at the Isuzu FA Vase final.

The club is defending the title, after winning the title for the first time last year - defeating Littlehampton Town 3-0.

Now, as the Swans gear up for the final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, fans are getting ready to celebrate the team's success after making it to the final 3-2 on penalties against Congleton Town.

And it's not just ordinary fans showing their support for Newport Pagnell. Speaking to Greatest Hits Radio, Mayor Paul Daly told us of his pride of the team.

"I'm really proud, but the whole town is really proud. We are town that is technically inside Milton Keynes. But that's not the mindset of the townsfolk. The townsfolk think we are, cause we are an independent town of about, you know, knocking towards 20,000 people. So we're a small town and they're really is a strong sort of community feeling Newport, Pagnell," he said.

When asked about what the success of the club, Mr. Daly was astounded at the support the club was receiving:

"You know, people are really, really up for it and that it's our second Wembley final because as a town and as players and as a club," he said.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, twice in one year, because last year, of course, it was the 22nd of May. This is the 21st of May. So it is actually within one rolling year that they're back to Wembley.

"There are professional footballers that never stepped foot in Wembley as a player and yet some of our lads will be their second game at Wembley. It's amazing."

Following on from their victory last year, the support for the team was immeasurable, according to the Mayor.

"When we won last year, the Council paid for an open top bus parade for the for the team. And so in that from that vantage point of being in the parade as we went through, you just saw how many people were wearing green to so you know to support the team.

"People saying 'where are the team?' - old people, young people, men, women, etc. It was fantastic!"

However, he was unsure of the final score that Newport Pagnell could score on Sunday:

"If it goes to penalty shoot outs, we are very good. If it came to that, I'd be I'd be more confident cause the boys are superb. So I'd be fairly confident whenever we get to a shootout.

"Running the match otherwise, who knows. 2-0 to us? But that is pure speculation. It could be 17-3!"

The final of the Isuzu FA Vase season will take place on Sunday (May 21st) at 12:15.
