More new homes in Aylesbury set to go-ahead.

Plans to build more than two dozen new homes on top of an Aylesbury building are set to go-ahead.

Developers have submitted proposals to add 28 new homes on top of Sloane House on New Street through a prior approval application.

Applicants want to add two new floors to the building, which is a vacant detached office space constructed in the late 1970s.

18 apartments would be provided at third-floor level, with another ten added on the fourth floor.

A separate application was previously approved in March to convert the existing offices to residential use.

This prompted developers to submit a prior approval application for 28 new homes earlier this week.

Also known as permitted development, this type of application allows former offices to be converted into homes without the need to go through typical planning processes whereby local authority officers and perhaps eventually councillors judge the plans.

This does not mean developers can add anything they like to the site, however.

They still have to meet a number of requirements set out by permitted development rights, but these will not necessarily be the same standards the council uses to determine applications.

According to a design statement from developers, the site has been identified within the Aylesbury Town Centre Master Plan for regeneration.

Another regular planning application is currently being assessed by the council to give the site a facelift that will “significantly improve the visual appearance of the building.”

The application for 28 homes was validated by Buckinghamshire Council on Monday, October 19 and is currently being considered.
