MK Dons have announced the signing of 24-year-old centre-back Sam Sherring, who joins on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Northampton Town. Sherring's arrival marks the club's fifth signing of the summer as they gear up for the 2024/25 season.

Sherring, who played a pivotal role in Northampton Town’s promotion to League One in the 2022/23 season, is known for his ball-playing abilities and defensive prowess. Over his two seasons with the Cobblers, he amassed 77 appearances and established himself as a key figure in their backline.

The Bournemouth academy graduate spent his formative years with the Premier League side, embarking on his first loan spell with Weymouth in 2018. His subsequent loan to Torquay United during the 2020/21 season saw him make 45 appearances and reach the National League Play-Off final. Sherring further honed his skills with loan stints at Accrington Stanley and Cambridge United in the 2021/22 season before joining Northampton permanently.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the move to MK Dons, Sherring stated, "The plan and vision for the club, along with the top-notch facilities, made it an easy decision. I'm really excited to be here."

Speaking about his conversation with MK Dons' Head Coach Mike Williamson, Sherring added, "We had a great discussion not only about football but life in general. He outlined how he could help me grow as a player and how I could contribute to the club’s success. The style of play here is something that I find very appealing, and I believe it suits my strengths. I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together."

Coach Mike Williamson expressed his satisfaction with the signing, saying, "Sam is a perfect fit for the type of player we are looking to bring in. He’s young, ambitious, and has valuable EFL experience, including a promotion from this division. We’re delighted to welcome him to our squad and eager to see his impact on our defense."

Sherring joins new recruits Conor Lemonheigh-Evans, Luke Offord, Laurence Maguire, and Tommy Leigh as MK Dons continue to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
