Milton Keynes man convicted of historic decade long campaign of child abuse
Martyn Bragg, of Granes End, Milton Keynes, was sentenced to 23 years in prison following a trial at St Albans Crown Court
A 66-year-old man has been jailed after being convicted of multiple child sex offences spanning nearly a decade.
Martyn Bragg, of Granes End, Milton Keynes, was sentenced to 23 years in prison following a trial at St Albans Crown Court. The offences, which occurred between 1978 and 1986 in Hemel Hempstead and surrounding areas, included rape, indecent assault, and conspiracy to procure a miscarriage. The crimes involved one victim, a girl under the age of 14 at the time.
Detective Constable Elizabeth McGrath of Hertfordshire Constabulary said: “Martyn Bragg subjected his victim to sustained abuse and torment, and the impact of his actions has been long-lasting. I would like to commend her for her bravery in reporting these crimes.”
During the same trial, Bragg’s 95-year-old father, Dennis Bragg, of Hamilton Road, St Albans, was convicted of conspiracy to procure a miscarriage. He was handed a two-year suspended sentence.
Recorder Butler described Martyn Bragg’s actions as a “truly horrific campaign of abuse” and sentenced him to serve at least two-thirds of his 23-year term before being eligible for parole. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely and received a restraining order and Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Hertfordshire Constabulary encourages victims of sexual abuse to come forward, no matter when the offences occurred, and offers specialist support and advice.
