Milton Keynes Council is preparing to create a network of emergency warm spaces to ensure people have somewhere warm to go over winter if they cannot afford to heat their home.

Where will the warm spaces be?

The plan, which is still in the works, could see public buildings such as libraries, host people who can't pay to keep their homes heated all day but will need somewhere warm to go.

This comes are campaigners such as Martin Lewis, the Moneysaving Expert, have highlighted that people could die over the winter months due to the cold.

When will the scheme be up and running?

The council have said they're still ironing out the details of the plan, which are expected to be announced later in the autumn.

But Robin Bradburn, a Liberal Democrat councillor in the city, said: "we will make everybody aware of what times and what's expected of people.

"we want them to be able to come and engage and use the facilities when they're there, but at the same time avail themselves of a warm space."

The council is also looking into other measures to help people throughout the winter months including help for those needing to buy furniture, as well as reduced bus fares for young people new to employment.
