Car park charges in Milton Keynes set for first rise in decade
The City Council is hoping to align parking fees with bus fares
Car parking charges in Milton Keynes are set to rise for the first time in nearly a decade.
City councillors are set to vote next week on plans to align parking tariffs with bus fares.
The two-hour minimum stay period in standard bays could rise from £1 to £2 - the price of a single bus trip for most journeys.
People would still pay 50p for each additional hour.
The one-hour minimum stay period in premium bays is set to rise by 50p, whilst E1 employee permit daily charges are also expected to increase.
Car share and hotel permits would be withdrawn as their use has declined.
Milton Keynes City Council hope the new tariffs will encourage more people to use public transport, and more investment in bus services, including franchising.
It's part of plans for the city to be carbon neutral by 2030.
The authority adds parking fees will remain similar to other Councils in the area, including Northamptonshire and Bedford.
City councillors are also expected to recommission the MK Connect passenger service, which transports people who do not live near buses to existing routes.
