A road in Bedford is closed to for a week, to allow a gas company to replace ageing pipes.

Midland Road, between Ashburnham Road and Gibbons Road, is closed from today until August 13th for Cadent to replace the pipes.

They've ensured this is to help keep locals connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.

A short diversion will be in place along Ashburnham Road and Greyfriars back to Midland Road.

Cadent Lead Delivery Engineer, Pete Day, said: “We have been working with local stakeholders to ensure the necessary work is carried out safely. Whilst a complete road closure may not ideal, it will ensure that we can safely and quickly lay the pipe across this junction.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we complete this important work.”

They've assured gas supplies won't be affected by the project, which is due to continue along Midland Road after the road closure, from the junction of Rutland Road and Grafton Road until Friday 1 September.
