Residents of Mid-Bedfordshire are taking to the polls this Thursday (19 October) to elect their new MP.

It’s after Conservative MP Nadine Dorries stepped down on August 29, 2023.

The seat has been held by the Conservatives since 1931, only losing out twice since 1918, both times to the Liberals.

Greatest Hits Radio spoke to residents of Mid-Bedfordshire to find out what core issues they wish the next MP to address.

Among those raised were the lack of GP and dentist surgeries, the cost-of-living crisis, and the reason constituents should vote for them.

Thirteen candidates in total are standing, with results expected in the early hours of Friday (20 October).

The candidates are listed below:

Festus Akinbusoye, Conservative Party.

Prince Ankit Love, Emperor of India, no party.

Kelly Ann, The Official Monster Raving Loony Party.

Sid Cordle, Christian People Alliance.

Dave Holland, Reform UK.

Emma Holland-Lindsay, Liberal Democrats.

Gareth Mackey, Independent.

Chris Rooney, Mainstream.

Cade Sibley, Green Party.

Alistair Strathern, Labour Party.

Alberto Thomas, Heritage Party.

Alan Victor, True and Fair Party.

Antonio Daniel Vitiello, English Democrats.

The candidate who wins the by-election could be in office for a few months only, with a general election coming up.

Although no date has been announced as of yet, one is expected to take place in 2024, which means the Mid-Bedfordshire seat would be fought over again in the next year.

We'll be putting residents concerns to candidates tomorrow.
