Three men have been jailed for their roles in a fight involving knives in Luton.

Officers attended Dallow Road on 17 January following reports of a large-scale altercation which had erupted between rival groups.

The incident was captured on CCTV and further police enquiries led to the arrests of five men, who all entered guilty pleas for their roles in the disorder.

Detective Inspector Scott Fowler from Bedfordshire Police’s guns and gangs unit Boson said: “This brazen street violence shocked the public who witnessed it. An argument quickly spiralled into a vicious fight where knives were used by both sides to inflict injuries onto their rivals, thankfully these proved not to be life-threatening. We are committed to cracking down on violence and knife crime, as there is no place for it on Bedfordshire’s streets.

“I am grateful that the individuals convicted as part of this operation are going to be jailed and no longer free to cause fear and intimidation within our community.”

At Luton Crown Court on Friday 27 June, the following sentences were handed down:

Amaan Safeer, 24, of Kent Road, Luton was sentenced to a total of 45 months in custody for wounding with intent and possession of a knife.

Mohammed Hussain, 19, of Runley Road, Luton, was sentenced to 13.5 months in custody for violent disorder.

Mohammed Safeer, 20, of Kent Road, Luton, was sentenced to 27 months in custody for violent disorder.

Hamza Arshad, 23, of Runley Road, Luton, also pleaded guilty to two counts of wounding with intent, violent disorder and possession of a bladed article and will be sentenced in September.

A further man aged 19 remains on remand while his case continues.
