A man from Watford has been handed a life sentence after being found guilty of murdering his father at the family home.

24-year-old Husnein Amjad, of Fuller Road, Watford was found guilty by a jury of murder, and sentenced yesterday (December 7) to a minimum of 17 years in prison before he is considered for parole.

On October 28, 2021, 52-year-old Amjad Hussain was found seriously injured in an upstairs bedroom at the family home, by family members, just after 6pm.

Emergency services were called to the scene, but sadly, Mr Hussain was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:02.

Amjad was arrested and charged with his murder having previously visited Watford Police Station to hand himself in, unaware his father would later die at the scene.

Amjad pleaded guilty to manslaughter in April 2022 but denied murder.

The jury's decision was reached yesterday and the sentenced was passed afterwards.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Khanna, from the Major Crime Unit, said: “This was an assault within the family house that has sadly resulted in a family losing a husband and father.

“This has been an extensive investigation and a sad case that Amjad will now need to reflect on from behind bars. My thoughts remain with Mr Hussain’s family and friends at this difficult time and following today’s sentencing.”
