A man was sentenced to three years in prison today after he robbed two elderly women in their homes last month. Lewis Willett, 31, received his sentence today at Oxford Crown Court from Surrey had earlier plead guilty to two charges of burglary and theft, following an investigation by Thames Valley Police.

The first offence took place on June 3, when Willett was found in the victim's garden. When she shouted for help, Willett left the premises with the victim's husbands wallet. The second offence came.

In the second instance on June 29, Willett gained access to the victim's house after claiming he could help with the house work that was due. The victim gave Willett her debit card, scared that Willett would return to her address, and Willett withdrew £300 from a nearby cash machine.

Willett was finally apprehended on July 7 and charged on the same day.

The investigating officer Detective Constable Rachel Huggins is based at Abingdon Police Station. She says that such criminal behaviour against elderly citizens will not be tolerated and that it will be investigated thoroughly to put offenders before the courts.

She also warned people to check the credentials of the person requesting access to their homes: “We advise anyone to ensure they get ID from people knocking at their door and not let them into their house or to give them any money."
