A man who attempted to import tens of thousands of pounds worth of cannabis from the USA into Bedfordshire has been jailed for two years.
Ashley Lewin, 36, from Furzehill Road, Borehamwood was caught after detectives worked with the UK Border Force to intercept parcels containing around £50,000 of cannabis he was trying to collect from various addresses in Luton, Dunstable, and Houghton Regis.
Last year, Border Force identified a series of packages containing cannabis sent to false names at addresses across the south of the county.
Detectives from Bedfordshire Police interviewed suspects at these addresses and linked the phone number of the suspect orchestrating the deliveries to Lewin.
Officers carried out a warrant at his home address in Borehamwood and recovered almost £50,000 of cannabis, £37,000 in cash, designer clothes, and expensive jewelry.
Lewin pleaded guilty to fraudulent evasion of prohibition and possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.
DC Adam Geary, who led the investigation, thanked everyone involved and said that Lewin had spent cash made off an illegal industry that ruins lives.
