A man has been handed a five-year jail term after biting off part of another man’s ear during an assault in Stanstead Abbotts.
Sean Turner, aged 43, from Church Street in Enfield, was sentenced at Huntingdon Crown Court on Wednesday 16 February in connection with the incident, which occurred on Thursday 2 August, 2018.
The victim, who was aged 37 at the time, had pulled up along the High Street in a vehicle, to collect his son, when a verbal altercation occurred with Turner.
As the victim got out of the vehicle, Turner struck out and overpowered the victim before biting off part of his right ear.
Members of the public intervened and Turner made off. He was located six days later and arrested, before being charged in February 2019 with section 18 GBH with intent.
He pleaded not guilty and a week-long trial commenced at St Albans Crown Court on Monday 17 January 2022. He was found guilty by a jury and subsequently sentenced last week.
Detective Constable Chris Golding, from the East Herts Local Crime Unit, led the investigation. He said: “This was nasty, unprovoked attack which left the victim with a serious injury. I’m pleased that this dangerous individual is now off the streets.”
