Detectives in Welwyn Garden City have charged a man in connection with the stabbing which occurred on Monday (26 February).

Following detectives working around the clock, to piece together vital information, the 22-year-old man from Welwyn Garden City who was arrested yesterday has been charged with attempted murder and several related incidents.

He has since been remanded in court.

At 7.15pm on Monday, police received a report of a stabbing in a man sustained stab wounds to his arm and chest following an assault in Hall Grove. Although the victim suffered serious injuries, these are thankfully deemed not life threatening.

A quick police response to the scene saw officers completing thorough searches of the area as they continue to establish the full circumstances.

Detective Inspector Bianca Broadbent, who is leading the investigation from the Welwyn Hatfield Local Crime Unit, said: “We hope that this news that we have charged an individual in relation to the events earlier in the week, will come as reassurance to the local community.

“Police also received reports of two further incidents - one of vehicle tyres being slashed in the Little Gannett and Great Gannett area on Monday (26 February), and one of criminal damage and threats made on Wednesday, (28 February) in Moors Walk, and we think these may be linked. If you witnessed either of these incidents, please get in touch. If you were in the areas at the time and have dash cam footage, doorbell cameras, or CCTV at home, please contact us as you may have recorded some crucial information to assist our investigation.”

Chief Inspector for Welwyn Hatfield, Pete Frost, added: “I would like to thank everyone who has come to us with information relating to the events on Monday. At his time, I would also encourage anyone who has information that may help us to come forward.”
