A man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Derrick Kinyua.

Shakeel Morton, 19, of Upwell Road, Luton, appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday) charged with murder.

Morton was remanded into custody ahead of an appearance at Luton Crown Court on Monday (24 April).

Yesterday (Wednesday) officers made a third arrest as part of their ongoing enquiries. A man in his 20s remains in police custody.

A third man previously arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been bailed whilst enquires continue.

Mr Kinyua was stabbed following an altercation that took place on the junction of Hitchin Road and Hucklesby Way, Luton.

Emergency services attended the scene but despite their best efforts, Mr Kinyua later died in hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Khanna from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of Mr Kinyua at this time.

“This is a deeply distressing incident, and we would ask the wider community to continue to respect the family’s privacy.

“We are continuing to follow a number of enquiries and would urge the public to support us in our investigation by sharing any information that could support our efforts.”
