A man has been arrested, after election materials were damaged and stolen in Hatfield.

Hertfordshire Police say they were called after the publicity items were targeted on Hertford Road between June 19th and 23d.

A 29-year-old man from Hatfield was yesterday arrested, in connection with the incidents.

He has since been released on bail, and officers are searching for anyone else involved

Superintendent Chris Hay, from Hertfordshire Constabulary, said: “I would like to remind members of the public that removing or causing damage to legitimate election publicity materials is a criminal offence.

“While these offences occurred in Hatfield, we take all reports of theft or damage seriously wherever they occur in the county.

“We will respond to incidents and where necessary make arrests as part of a full and prompt investigation. Anyone found to have committed theft or criminal damage to publicity materials could end up with a criminal record.”
