Man arrested after fatal crash in High Wycombe

A man from High Wycombe has been arrested, after a fatal road traffic collision.

The 59-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation.

It is in connection with an incident which happened at around 10.30pm on Thursday (20 May) in Hughenden Avenue.

Officers were called to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

Sadly the pedestrian, who has been identified as 56 year-old Steven Cooke, from High Wycombe, died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The car, believed to be a Vauxhall Astra, did not stop at the scene.

Investigating officer, PC Ian Stevens, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said:

"My thoughts remain with Steven’s family and friends.

"I am re-appealing for any witnesses to this incident to please come forward.

"I’d also ask any motorists in the local area around the time that this happened to please check any dash-cam footage in case it may have capture something that could assist our investigation.
