Man appears in court charged with Borehamwood arson

Twenty-five-year-old Perry Aldrich from Stratfield Road is accused of causing an estimated £3million worth of damage.

A man appeared in court on Friday (26 January) in connection with an arson in Borehamwood which caused an estimated £3million worth of damage.

Twenty-five-year-old Perry Aldrich from Stratfield Road in the town, was summoned to appear before St Albans Magistrates’ Court to answer a charge of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

The charge relates to an incident which occurred in Balmoral Drive on Friday 12 August, 2022 (correct).

It is alleged that garden waste was set alight, causing fire to spread to a nearby block of flats. Gardens and sheds were also damaged during the incident, but no one was seriously injured.

A police investigation was subsequently launched by the Hertsmere Local Crime Unit.

The case has been transferred to St Albans Crown Court for a pre-trial hearing on Tuesday 27 February.
