No trains are expected to run for the 16 rail companies walking out today, as members of the ASLEF rail union demand better pay.

Rail passengers across the country face major disruptions, including in Buckinghamshire, where not a single Chiltern Railway service will run, with most stations closed altogether.

The walkout is caused by a bitter, long-running disputes over pay, jobs and conditions.

Nigel Gibson, Head of the Aslef Union in the East, said: “This isn’t of our making, it’s not something that ASLEF want to be doing and our members are losing money each day they take strike action.”

Meanwhile Chiltern Railway, which had already been experiencing disruption due to works conducted on some of its lines, including for the HS2 high speed train, is wanting to reassure its passengers.

Matt Turner, from Chiltern Railway, said: “There is a lot of disruption across the Chiltern network up until the end of next week and the primary disruption is the Aslef industrial action that’s going to affect our services.”

“The main advice from me would be to please check before you travel.”

This is the 7th full day of industrial action affecting train services this year, with another full strike action day planned on Wednesday 4th October.

Between those days, an overtime ban for members of the same union may affect several journeys, although most services are still due to run.
