Drivers are being urged to allow extra time to complete their journeys as part of the M1 remains closed in Bedfordshire.

The motorway is shut northbound between Junction 11a and 13 after a car and a lorry collided, which National Highways and emergency services were called to at around 3:45am.

A man in his 20s is fighting for his life in hospital following the crash.

The collision took place between Junctions 12 and 13, but the extended closure is to allow large lorries to be released.

National Highways expect the closure to last throughout Monday morning so investigations, recovery, and possible resurfacing work can take place.

Drivers are being diverted via the A5120, A507 and A421.

Bedfordshire Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or has footage of it, to call 101 or report online, quoting reference 38 of 16 September.
