Luton Town Football Club have announced that their captain, Tom Lockyer, has commenced a period of rehabilitation from the comfort of his home following a successful medical procedure.

The club reported that Lockyer was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday after undergoing an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) device fitting on Tuesday to prevent a recurrence of the recent health incident.

"We are thankful to report that our captain Tom Lockyer has now begun a period of rehabilitation from the comfort of his own home after he was discharged from hospital on Wednesday"

The statement continued with gratitude towards the entire Bournemouth community, particularly acknowledging their supporters, club officials, and medical staff, as well as midfielder Philip Billing, who was the first to reach Tom on the pitch and call for assistance.

"Supported by the actions of Bournemouth’s medical team and local paramedics, it was ultimately the protocols instilled and professional actions of our own medical staff that gave Tom this chance to recover and to whom we are thankful," the statement added.

Expressing shock and surprise at the events of the past weekend, Luton Town, in collaboration with Sporting Chance via the Premier League, is actively providing care for those who may be affected by the distress caused.

The statement highlighted the comprehensive clinical advice received by Tom and the club since the Championship play-off final, involving renowned cardiologists and a team of supporting multi-disciplinary consultants. Recent tests revealed that the issue Tom experienced on Saturday was different from the atrial fibrillation he suffered in May.

The football community's outpouring of support and messages of concern were acknowledged by Tom, his family, and the club. The statement emphasized the overwhelming level of support received and expressed gratitude to everyone in the football family who sent messages of concern and love.

"We’re so proud to have Locks as our captain, and his leadership will continue from the sidelines where his courage will inspire his teammates, colleagues, and supporters, starting on Saturday," the statement concluded.
