Luton Town Football Club have issued a statement following tragedy chanting during their home match at Kenilworth Road on Sunday against Liverpool.

The Club's statement, released yesterday, says they apologise "wholeheartedly" to anyone affected.

Following the match the Club say they're reviewing CCTV, and media footage, from the match, and are wanting to speak with witnesses to help identify those who might have taken part.

They've also stated that any perpetrators found could face stadium bans as well as potential criminal prosecutions.

The Premier League Fixture resulted in a 1-1 draw, and Luton Town say in the statement they are "extremely disappointed that a small number of supporters soured the occasion with chants that may be interpreted as being in relation to tragedies that have affected Liverpool FC in the past".

The Club also said it condemns any chanting that wants to divide, with an internal investigation launched already by their safety and security team.

The statement also went on to say that the Club believe a number of people may have taken part, without realising that the words used "were in relation to the Hillsborough and Heysel tragedies, and we see the route to persuading supporters not to repeat these chants in future is through communication and education."

Luton Town FC say they are going to continue to educate their supporters and will work with supporter groups.

The Club's full statement can be found here.

Anyone with information or video footage that could support Luton Town's investigation is asked to get in touch.
