Luton Town Football Club has opened the doors of its stadium to the public this week to offer residents a warm shelter.

The warm hub is the first of its kind to open at a football stadium.

It's in collaboration with charities including a local foodbank and Citizens Advice, and the Club's sponsor Utilita Energy.

Chief Marketing Officer at Utilita Energy, Jem Maidment, said: "Luton Town is the heartbeat of Luton, and it's very much a community-minded club, they care about the people, their fans, and the wider community."

"It just seemed blindingly obvious that actually let's use the stadium, Luton Town's biggest asset, to help the local community."

The aim is to not only enable residents and fans to find shelter and warmth when their homes may be cold, but to seek energy efficiency advice from experts at Utilita Energy and support from charities.

Speaking to Greatest Hits Radio, Mr Maidment said: "At the moment we have an affordability crisis in this country, energy prices are an all-time high, they are coming down but not quickly enough for consumers."

"It's incredibly cold at the moment and that's reflecting on people's bills, and that's a very good way for Luton Town to help the community with Utilita's help."

"This is just doing something back for the fans and the community."

The hub opened on Monday 22nd January and will continue to welcome residents until Friday 26th at the Eric Morecambe Lounge and John Moore Lounge, between 9am and 5pm.
