This year's Luton Mela has been cancelled.

Organisers have said mixed messages from the government and a rise in the number of positive COVID-19 cases in Luton have had a "considerable impact" on planning the annual event.

They added:

"We feel it would not be responsible on our part to put the health and safety of those potentially attending Luton Mela this year at any risk.

"Hence, as a consequence the Luton Mela Management has decided it does not feel ethically right to hold Luton Mela this year with all this uncertainty around."

But, organisers are encouraging people to save the dates for next year's event, on 27 and 28 August, when they will be returning with a "bigger bang".
