A man from Luton, who threatened shop workers with a knife and demanded money from the till, has been jailed.

Lewis Adams, aged 27, of Dunstable Road, Luton, pleaded guilty to a series of shop robberies between January and June this year.

He targeted three convenience stores in Birdsfoot Lane, Hancock Drive and Bishopscote Road in Luton between 2 January and 30 June.

Adams entered each of the stores, threatened staff members with a knife and demanded money from the till.

His crime spree ended on 30 June when he was recognised by a member of staff who blocked the entrance of the shop and notified the police.

He was seen discarding a knife in Saxon Road and was arrested shortly after in Leagrave Road.

Adams was identified by CCTV footage as he was wearing the same clothing at the time of the arrest.

He was sentenced to three years in prison for five counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery.

He also pleaded guilty to knife related offences which will lie on file.

PC Adam Geary, from the Luton Crime Investigation Team, who investigated, said:

"Adams terrorised the shop staff in these three locations on a number of occasions for a small financial gain.

"Hopefully this sentence will bring some reassurance and comfort to the people affected by his violent actions and the local community."
