Luton Airport expansion to be considered by Government
The move would create around 11,000 jobs
The government is set to consider a plan to expand Luton Airport - in a move which would increase the capacity to 32 million passengers per year.
Luton Rising - the council company that owns the company says it would add £1.5bn to the economy.
It aims to attract new businesses improve productivity and follows a feedback from over 3,500 people.
The expansion would include the addition of a new terminal building and new taxiways.
It hasn't gone down well with everyone, however. Vocal critic-group, LADACAN says: "They have spent well over £60m on an application which would increase Luton’s dependency on the noisy, polluting, and unsustainable kerosene-fuelled aviation industry."
"They wasted £300m on a DART rail link which their own auditors say is only worth £80m. This hardly seems to evidence great leadership – more like reckless folly."
The government has 6 months to consider the proposal.
