Arrival routes into London Luton Airport could be set to change, increasing air traffic across parts of Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire.

London Luton Airport remains one of the UK's busiest airports despite COVID-19, carrying 5.4 million passengers in 2020

In October last year a consultation opened to help determine new arrival routes for flights into the airport.

The two options discussed look to simplify and modernise the arrival routes for flights into the airport and segregate them from Stansted's, ensuring safety.

Under Option 1 there would be no change at all to Buckinghamshire, but for northern Herts there would be fewer Luton arrivals over Royston, elsewhere there would be similar traffic at similar altitudes over similar locations but some would be travelling in different directions.

Under Option 2 for both Bucks and Herts, there would be changes in traffic concentration in the northern half of each county.

The consultation received more than 2,400 responses from MPs, councils, airlines, flying clubs, the military, community groups and individual members of the public.

The responses are now due to be reviewed, analysed and categorised, to help inform the final proposal to be submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority.

If plans are approved by the Civil Aviation Authority the new design would be implemented no earlier than February 2022.
