Following a structural assessment, London Luton Airport authorities have confirmed that the car park, which caught fire last month, will be fully demolished due to the extent of the structural damage.

It means those with vehicles parked on levels ground to three, will not get them back - as they have been deemed irrecoverable.

Chief Fire Officer Andrew Hopkinson from Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that as many as 1,500 vehicles were present in the car park at the time of the fire, with up to 1,200 of them believed to be damaged.

Efforts to stabilize the structure have been underway, but the process of removing approximately 100 vehicles from the top deck has encountered delays. These delays are primarily attributed to adverse weather conditions and strong winds.

Individuals with vehicles stranded on the upper levels of the car park are advised to contact their insurance companies directly for further information, as the process of retrieving these vehicles is now underway.

Most insurance claims have been settled, and individuals who have not yet received their final settlements are encouraged to reach out to their insurance companies promptly.

Throughout this challenging situation, London Luton Airport has been working closely with the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) and the Association of British Insurers to facilitate the claims process and address the incident as swiftly as possible. The airport authorities express their appreciation for the community's patience and understanding during this trying period.
