A man has been jailed for 14 years, after sexually abusing a child over the space of five years.

62-year-old Peter Cutler, of Heath Road, Leighton Buzzard, pleaded guilty to offences, leading to his sentencing last week.

After serving his sentence, he has an extended licence period seven years following his release, which Bedfordshire Police say is "due to his dangerousness".

He'll also have to abide by a Restraining Order, and Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Cutler abused his victim over five years, who opened up to a trusted adult.

While on bail, he admitted to sexually abusing a child to family members, claiming he didn't know what he was doing.

He pleaded guilty to:

• Seven counts of assaulting a child by penetration

• Six counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child

• Five counts of sexual assault of a child

• Two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child,

• Two counts of causing a child to watch a sexual act

Detective Constable Matt McCarthy, from Bedfordshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People team, said: “I’m glad that Cutler received a significant sentence, and is now off the streets and can’t pose a danger to any other child."
