Learner Drivers in Bucks advised to only book a test if certain they will pass
The DVSA currently has a backlog of 420,000 tests
There are currently 420,000 car tests in the backlog and the national average waiting time for a driving test is 17 weeks.
In a bid to clear the backlog the DVSA (Driving Vehicle Standards Agency) are asking people to only take their test when they are confident they can pass. This will not only help them avoid a lengthy wait for a retest but also help by not adding to the backlog.
Dean Powell is a driving instructor in Wendover:
"I've already experienced quite a big interest in people wanting to get started and that is in addition to the previous customers I had prior to lockdown.
Don't be put off by the backlog, get out there and start getting some experience, find and instructor and start learning. It's a gradual process and from my experience that's by far the best way to learn."
In a recent letter to instructors across the UK the DVSA's new Chief Executive said:
"There are challenging times ahead for all of us. By working together, we can help to reduce the backlog, help your industry recover and help people stay safe on Britain’s roads."
He also said they are doing everything they can to reduce the backlog as safely and as quickly as possible to help the driver training industry recover.
A recruitment campaign for driving examiners has also taken place with over 5,000 applications received.
