Karting grid stunned as racer revealed to be Kimi Antonelli
The Formula 1 driver posted an incredible lap time at Daytona Milton Keynes
Racers at Daytona Milton Keynes were left stunned after competing against a quiet new driver, who turned out to be Formula 1 star Kimi Antonelli.
The karting session took place this afternoon, with the racer initially signing up under the name “Henry Shovlin.” Sitting quietly through the briefing, Antonelli kept a low profile before taking to the track in wet conditions.
After lights out, he made a lasting impression. Antonelli dominated the session, posting the fastest lap of the race by three seconds – a 1:24.5 – which was over five seconds quicker than the previous best set by professional racing driver Alex Albon.
Unforgettable surprise
The 19 year old's identity was only revealed after helmets were removed in the pit lane. Fellow competitors slowly realised they had been racing alongside Antonelli, as the well-known driver stepped back into the pavilion.
Daytona Milton Keynes described the moment as just “another afternoon” at their track, showing the excitement and unforgettable surprises that sometimes unfold there.
