A total of 533 knives were surrendered in Hertfordshire during recent efforts to address knife crime, coinciding with the nationwide Sceptre campaign.

Of the total, 492 were handed in as part of an amnesty held in October, which was linked to the visit of the Knife Angel statue to the county. Another 41 knives were surrendered during the Sceptre week of action, which ran from 17th-23rd November 2025.

Building on the Knife Angel legacy

The week of action included a range of initiatives aimed at young people and the wider community. Engagement events were held in schools and public areas, where officers spoke about the dangers of knife crime. Retailers were also visited to ensure compliance with laws prohibiting knife sales to individuals under 18.

Knife detection operations formed part of the campaign, with officers conducting searches and patrols across Hertfordshire.

Chief Inspector Pete Frost, who led the initiative, emphasised the positive response from the community.

“There is always a great response from local residents during our weeks of action and we always get lots of positive feedback from all the young people we speak to,” Frost said.

“We had activities going on throughout the week, visiting schools and talking to young people as well as conducting knife detection operations and test purchasing at knife retailers. We continue to uphold the Knife Angel’s anti-violence legacy, following its visit last month, and regular amnesties are a good way to ensure knives are taken out of circulation.”
