Campaigners against HS2 works across the country are holding peaceful protests across Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire today as part of a national campaign to end the works across the country.

Ahead of the parliamentary debate of Monday, the aim is to increase public awareness and get people to contact their local MPs if they feel strongly about the issue.

Concern over where the works take place

Sarah Green is protesting at one of the spots today, and noted in a live Facebook stream this morning that there are growing concerns about how the works are affecting water quality and the breaches in how they operate around protected water sites. She said:

"The works are going through 6 drinking water protected areas. This is against the water environment regulations 2017 which says nothing should be done in a water protected area which requires additional purification works." "We know through released information that this is definitely being broken."

Mark Keir is also attending the protests today, and feels that the damage done will seriously be impacting residents. He said:

"We've had lots of local support. The amount of damage that is going to be done is mind-boggling and we really, really need to get this known."

He also added:

"MPs are going to be debating HS2 in parliament on Monday, and we need them all to be properly informed on how the people feel. 80% of the people have been saying they do not want HS2 and it's high time parliament paid attention."
