HS2 campaigners from Bucks want their voices heard
Local residents urged to speak out

January 24th marked the National day of Action for campaigners standing against the HS2 project.
Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire held a gathering at the Memorial Centre where almost 30 people turned up to hear about alternative construction plans put together by local engineer Alan.
Mark Keir, a spokesperson for the campaign was at the meeting and said: "I think we've alerted people to the amount of work that goes into a campaign like this and the amount of help we need to make this successful".
Buckinghamshire county counsellor Jane MacBean was also at the meeting and said the meeting had two goals: "To hear what local people have to say about what's going on in their community and the other is to actually educate people about important matters".
A statement from an HS2 spokesperson said: "The construction of HS2 is playing a vital role in Britain’s economic recovery from Covid-19, with over 20,000 people working on the project, tens of thousands of additional jobs supported through our supply chain, and hundreds of companies across the UK already benefitting from HS2 contracts. By providing a cleaner, greener way to travel, HS2 will help cut the number of cars and lorries on our roads, cut demand for domestic flights, and help the country’s push to reduce carbon emissions and better air quality.”
