An investigation has launched after a man had his house stolen in Luton without his knowledge.

Reverend Mike Hall told the BBC he was shocked to return home to find all his belongings had been taken – after the property was sold without his knowledge.

Reverend Mike Hall had had his identity stolen and used to make the purchase and bank payments, a BBC investigation has found.

Mr Hall, who was away working in north Wales, said he received a call from his neighbours on 20 August, alerting him that someone was in the house and all the lights were on.

He told BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours:

"I went to the front door, tried my key in the front door, it didn't work and a man opened the front door to me.

"I pushed him to one side and got in the property. I really didn't know what he was doing there.

"The shock of seeing the house completely stripped of furniture; all furnishings, carpet, curtains - everything - was out of the property."
