Man dies after a car collides with tree in Hitchin

Another man has also been rushed to hospital following the fatal collision.

A man has died and another has been taken to hospital following a fatal collision with a tree near Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

It occurred on the A602 Park Way, near the junction with Charlton Road yesterday evening, shortly before 8:40pm.

The white Volkswagen Polo was travelling towards Stevenage when it left the carriageway and collided with a tree on the side of the road.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Hertfordshire police are appealing for anyone with any information or dashcam footage.

Sergeant Nicholas Kane, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this extremely difficult time.

“We are currently working to establish the circumstances around what happened and are appealing to the public for their assistance.

“Did you see a white VW Polo being driven in the area around the time? Did you capture anything of note on a dash cam? If you have any information at all, please get in touch. Thank you.”
